Wassergasse 11
World Heritage Regensburg
Living right next to the famous Stone Bridge
The stone bridge and the cathedral are one of the most important landmarks in Regensburg. As a special masterpiece of medieval architecture and the oldest surviving bridge in Germany, with construction beginning in 1135, it attracts tourists from all over the world and is a popular meeting place for the people of Regensburg.
From the Stone Bridge you can get directly to the Stadtamhof, the smallest part of Regensburg. This picturesque place is located on an island between the arms of the Danube and, together with the old town, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the “gateway” to the city of Regensburg, Stadtamhof had to endure a lot, especially in times of war, and was repeatedly destroyed. Its exceptional island location is striking. Today, the comprehensively renovated district is Regensburg’s most sought-after residential area. And this is exactly where your holiday home is located – the Wassergasse.
History Wassergasse
The name comes from the proximity to the Danube, the water level of which was much closer to the houses in 1900 and accordingly determined the use: Smaller handicraft businesses, tanneries and mills were located here. Wassergasse 11 was also used by a tannery at this time and was known as the “house for crabs”. At that time, robust leather for soles, for example, was produced in a red tannery with a red broth made from oak bark.
Not far from Wassergasse, Gries is another testament to medieval town history and means: beach, flat shore. Here the rain flows into the Danube. Am Gries and Wassergasse are the insider tip of the old Stadtamhof with their irregular rows of houses and facades painted in bright colors.

Particularly worth seeing is the Andreasstadel, once a two-storey salt barn, today a hotel, restaurant, art academy and cinema. And always worth a visit: The Katharinenspital with the hospital church and an idyllic beer garden.
